Financial & AI Disclaimer

Fireball is an information and budgeting tool. It is not personalised financial advice, and Helios Studio Limited is not a registered financial adviser or Financial Advice Provider (FAP) under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013. Nothing in the Service is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any financial product. Always seek advice from a licensed financial adviser before making financial decisions.
1. General information only
All content provided through the Fireball website and mobile apps — including FIRE projections, net worth charts, savings-rate calculations, debt payoff timelines, KiwiSaver figures, retirement-gap estimates, insights, charts, articles, AI-generated responses, and educational material (together, "Content") — is general information only. It does not take into account your full financial situation, objectives, or needs.
You should not rely on Content as the basis for any financial, investment, tax, or legal decision. Before acting on any information from the Service, consider whether it is appropriate for you and seek advice from a licensed financial adviser, tax adviser, or lawyer as relevant.
2. Not financial advice (NZ FMA)
Helios Studio Limited does not hold and does not operate under a New Zealand Financial Advice Provider (FAP) licence issued by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA). The Service is designed to provide tools that help you understand your own finances — not to recommend specific financial products or strategies for you.
No information in the Service should be construed as:
- A recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any KiwiSaver scheme, managed fund, ETF, individual security, cryptocurrency, property, insurance product, or any other financial product;
- An opinion on whether a particular financial product is suitable for you; or
- A "regulated financial advice" service for the purposes of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013.
3. FIRE projections and calculations
Projections (including time-to-FIRE, your FIRE number, retirement income, KiwiSaver drawdown estimates, and net-worth trajectories) are estimates generated from the data and assumptions you and your connected accounts provide. They are not forecasts and are not guaranteed.
- Default assumptions (e.g. expected return, inflation, withdrawal rate) are conservative reference values, not predictions. You can change them; small changes can produce large changes in projected outcomes.
- Projections do not account for tax, fees, investment-specific risks, life events, or changes in legislation (including changes to KiwiSaver or NZ Super).
- Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. All investments carry risk, including loss of principal.
- Bank-sourced figures depend on data from your bank and Akahu and may be incomplete, delayed, or miscategorised.
You are solely responsible for verifying figures and assumptions before relying on them.
4. AI features (OpenAI and Google Gemini)
AI features are powered by third-party large language models. OpenAI is the primary provider, and Google Gemini is a fallbackused only if OpenAI fails before producing visible text or a successful model/tool turn. Fireball does not send shadow or duplicate requests to both providers. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, fabricated (so-called "hallucinations"), or out of date — even when it sounds confident.
- Not advice: AI Chat responses are general information only. Never treat them as financial, tax, or legal advice. Always verify any numbers, dates, rules, or recommendations against an authoritative source before acting on them.
- What is sent: We send only the minimum data needed for the task you choose. Financial questions can include relevant balances, transactions, categories, budgets, goals, debt, and net-worth facts. Support-only questions exclude financial context but can include short excerpts of Fireball's public help content, and AI-assisted imports send a bounded sanitised profile rather than the full file. An enabled AI Weekly Review summary sends only bounded qualitative aggregate states and excludes transactions, names, notes, figures, and currencies. We do not send your email, login credentials, full account numbers, government identifiers, or import filename.
- Consent and cross-border processing: Fireball names its OpenAI and Google provider pool and requires current explicit consent before a provider-backed request. Processing can occur in the United States and other provider-controlled locations; without current consent, no request is sent.
- Provider data handling: Fireball uses OpenAI with response storage disabled. OpenAI's current API data-controls documentation says API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models unless the customer opts in, while default abuse-monitoring logs may retain prompts and responses for up to 30 days or longer in limited legal or protection circumstances. Google's paid-service terms say prompts and responses are not used to improve its products but may be logged temporarily for abuse monitoring unless Zero Data Retention applies; unpaid-service terms may permit product improvement and human review. Fireball does not promise either provider's Zero Data Retention controls and does not use your data to train an internal model.
- Conversation history: Conversations are saved so you can return to them. You can delete individual conversations or all chat history at any time from inside the app. Deleting your account permanently removes all conversation history.
- Don't paste sensitive third-party data: Do not enter information about other people or businesses that you don't have the right to share.
5. Bank-sourced data (Akahu)
Balances, transactions, and account information sourced through Akahu depend on the availability, accuracy, and completeness of data your bank provides. Connection errors, transient outages, and miscategorisation may occur. We are not responsible for losses arising from incorrect, missing, or delayed bank data.
6. Third-party content
The Service may include references to third-party tools, providers, schemes, or rates (e.g. KiwiSaver providers, NZ Super, market indices, retirement-expenditure benchmarks). These references are for general illustration only and do not constitute an endorsement or recommendation.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Helios Studio Limited and its directors, employees, and contractors are not liable for any loss or damage (including investment loss, lost profits, lost savings, or consequential or incidental loss) arising from your reliance on Content provided through the Service. Nothing in this disclaimer limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986.
8. Need real advice?
