Interactive Brokers, in your picture.
Fireball is the only New Zealand money app that connects to Interactive Brokers. Your IBKR holdings, cash, margin loans and dividends sit next to your banks, KiwiSaver and property, in one net worth and FIRE plan. The link is read only, so Fireball can never trade or move money.
How to connect Interactive Brokers
It takes a few minutes in IBKR on a computer or phone. Fireball shows each screen as you go.
1. Create a Flex Query
In IBKR, create an Activity Flex Query with Open Positions and Cash Report. Fireball lists every setting to pick.
2. Make a Flex token
Generate a Flex Web Service token in IBKR. Choose the one year expiry so you reconnect less often.
3. Paste both into Fireball
Open Bank Connections, choose Brokers and tap Connect. Fireball checks the pair with IBKR before saving it.
What comes through
Holdings and cash update once a day. Options, futures and short positions are left out.
Holdings
Stocks, ETFs, funds, bonds, bills, crypto and commodities, with live prices for most listed shares.
Cash and margin loans
One balance for each currency you hold, and negative cash shows as a debt, so your net worth stays honest.
Deposits and withdrawals
Shown as transfers, so growth leaves out the money you added.
Dividends
Paid out net of withholding tax and counted as investment income.
Overseas shares cost
Each purchase keeps what it cost, and overseas shares are shown against the NZ$50,000 FIF line as an estimate, not a tax calculation.
History
Up to five years of past portfolio value, the most IBKR's Flex reports allow.
