What is the fair dividend rate?
The fair dividend rate method treats 5% of the opening market value of your offshore investments as taxable income each year.
You pay tax on that 5% whatever the actual return. PIE funds holding offshore shares commonly use the same method.
Example
$100,000 of overseas shares at the start of the year means $5,000 of taxable FIF income.
