What is a PIR?
Your prescribed investor rate (PIR) is the tax rate on your PIE and KiwiSaver earnings: 10.5%, 17.5% or 28% for New Zealand residents.
It depends on your income in the past two tax years. Using a rate that is too low can leave tax to pay at the end of the year, so check it with your provider.
